The live production of Captain Flywheel and the Produce Section needed money, so to that end, GB staged its first and only "Live Aid" style concert fundraiser. Held at the Morseland in Chicago shortly before the staged opera took place in October 1994, it netted the show a necessary few hundred dollars, and the indelible memory of Becky and Rose trying to drink each other under the table.
The first part of the show was just the members of GB playing songs from their alter-ego band Butterman. Wowing the crowd with such hits as "Hogsnort", "Sack of Religion" (perhaps the worst song of all time), and "Rottweiler", Butterman-nee-GB proved itself able to play live on stage for several hours.
But while GB was electric for the entire evening, the highlight of the benefit was all the guest singers. From Padam joining us for a couple of tunes from a rarely-heard Seattle band to Elmo joining us for a couple of searing Cole Porter tunes, to the vegetables joining us for a blotto rendition of "Follow Your Dreams", the entire night was a ringing success, and proved that if enough people are drunk, anything can be cool.
